Sad

October 4th, 2008
You can click on the photo to make it larger. The machine above records her brain waves through the wires connected on her head.

This was one of the saddest sight I ever have to see in my entire life. My daughter undergoing an EEG test (neuro test). But the saddest was the result showing she has epileptiform discharges most prevalent when she is asleep. Meaning, aside from her autism she also has epilepsy (but the doctor has prescribed medication she will have to take for 2 years straight). Out of 7 children having autism only one of them is female. My child was the lucky one. Such innocence, such beautiful child. All I could ask is “Why?”

Then some might ask why do I have to share these pictures. One for awareness, for myself and everyone about this condition, which is the key to understanding. Two, acceptance that she is already in this state that no use beating my head on the wall about the why’s. Three, to let it all go all my fears and confusion and do something.

There are more sad ing here.

That is a sad moment, to find such things out. But on the other hand, it’s also a good thing, because now she can get treatment…

Good luck, and thanks for the comment…

Thanks for stopping by and commenting on my photo.

I know it’s sad and scary when our kids are sick, especially when we can’t “fix” them. It was brave of you to share these photos.

I walk for autism awareness – my best friend since high school has a grandson with autism. He’s a great little guy. I can’t “fix” him so I try to help raise money for research, hoping somebody will find something that might help him and the other great little kids one day.

Here’s a blog that I follow written by a mom of 6 year-old boy with autism, in case you want to check it out:

your daughter is blessed to have a supportive mom like you. children with autism need a lot more than what a normal child needs. it is a challenge on the part of a parent/parents. and not many can deal with such a situation positively.

hats off to you and to all mothers who bravely face such situations. you are gems in this world. and i hope and pray that all mothers will be inspired to be like you.

First I want to thank you for taking the time to visit my post.
Second – thank you for being brave enough to blog about your daughter. I’ve spent some time reading earlier posts. You are so right! It’s no use asking “Why?”, the important thing is to accept the situation and work on improving it. And this is what you are obviously doing.
We have discovered, relatively recently, that my husband has Aspergers Syndrome (although there’s no way of getting a proper assessment.) Our 23 yr old son has exhibited some of the signs of ASD since childhood, but we have never managed to get him assessed either. I don’t believe in labels, but help is only available when it fits the label! Our son is currently under medication for psychotic depression. At least we don’t have to worry about epilepsy!
I’m bookmarking your blog – I want to come back.

so brave of you to post this… and yes, “what to do” and acceptance is more important than the “why”…

re: your question to my “nice and cozy” post, that shot was taken somewhere here in Quezon City, and they do serve pandesal (huge ones!). :)
