Alice In Wonderland Movie Review

Tell me, what are the six impossible things you will see in this movie?  I suggest you forget about it.

This review will be very short but not sweet. I can only summarize it to 6 commendable things Tim Burton and Walt Disney was able to achieve with the movie:

  1. Awesome make-up and costume.
  2. Great production.
  3. Amazing  sounds and effects.
  4. Good acting  Johnny Depp.
  5. Good portrayal of the White Queen Ann Hathaway.
  6. Good job to Helena Bonham Carter for her portrayal of the Red Queen.

But as for the script it was too heavy and was far from what I expect. It was too serious. I was expecting some laugh-out-loud moments and some heart breaking scenes that would make me cry. But I guess I expected too much?

Or because that was the twist from the fun and light Alice in Wonderland that we all know.  Yup I think so.  This Wonderland was so gloomy and sad and depressing. But of course what do I expect from Tim Burton.

Kids could still enjoy it for the eye-candy and whimsical characters.  But I think some parts could give them nightmares specially those heads that were floating around the Red Queens castle.

Alice in Wonderland is now showing in Philippine theaters nationwide starting today March 4, 2010 with an exclusive IMAX 3D screening at  SM North EDSA IMAX Theater.

If you are a fan of Alice in Wonderland and a cosplayer you might like to join the cosplay event at SM MOA on Saturday 1-6PM.  Best costumes could win laptops and other amazing prizes!

  1. i haven’t watch this one but we intend to wait for it on DVD, but my MIL told us that the effects was really great although the movie was something far from it’s old story.

  2. We did need to see a good movie and then I saw this movie on trailer after seen it I was really impressed to see the movie and went on to see it on how about you guys did you know of this movie named Alice in Wonderland and it was a good faction tale just been release and so far many of the fans have seen the movie all ready

  3. alice in wonderland is not really a “fun” and “light” story. like all fairy tales back then, it was meant to ‘scare’ little kids by telling these make-up, almost ‘glad-it-wasnt-me’ scenes in their heads–so that they’d behave. but at the end of the day, despite the fear inflicted, you learn from it. and that’s where you take delight from. that’s why the end part of the book is my favorite part. it’s where the entire story comes in full circle. you understand the point of the author. and you begin to understand why alice became such a beloved character all these years. it speaks to the kid in you.

but, yeah, it’s just me talking. will see the movie tom. thanks for this though. 😉

  4. Wow, that’s fast. Well, first I’d like to say thank your for not putting any spoilers. Of course, this is a Tim Burton film, I think the word gloomy runs in his bloodstream. I will have to wait for hubby’s return from work, hopefully we can still get tickets for the evening show.
