My ‘Red Riding Hood’ Movie Review

UPDATE:  Red Riding Hood  howled at the Philippine box-office over the March 11 to 13 weekend for a three-day gross of P16.6-million nationwide. This was announced today by Francis Soliven, general manager of Warner  Bros. (F.E.), Inc., the movie’s local distributor

Who’s afraid of the big bad wolf?

‘The implicit message of the Red Riding Hood fable is: don’t talk to strangers. But what if the wolf turns out to be someone you know…someone you trust…someone you love? Producer Jennifer Davisson Killoran observes, “The story plays into our fears that someone close is not really who they appear to be. To me, the big, bad wolf represents the anxiety of not knowing who you’re really dealing with.”

Red Riding Hood

As a little girl, I never liked the story of the fairy tale Little Red Riding Hood because at the back of my mind there’s always a dark story behind Red going to her grandma to bring her a basket of goodies. I also didn’t like how grandma end up inside the belly of the wolf and how the wood cutter was able to rip off the creatures belly to get granny out.

This Red Riding Hood movie story is much more my taste. It wasn’t as bad and as sexy as I thought it will be. I love the twist and the unsanitized version where the dark stories and secrets were revealed. This story made much sense to me than the one they tell at nursery.

Movie Info:
‘Red Riding Hood’ tells the story of Valerie (Amanda Seyfried), a beautiful young woman torn between two men. She is in love with a brooding outsider, Peter (Shiloh Fernandez), but her parents have arranged for her to marry the wealthy Henry (Max Irons). Unwilling to lose each other, Valerie and Peter are planning to run away together when they learn that Valerie’s older sister has been killed by the werewolf that prowls the dark forest surrounding their village.

I also love how Valerie wasn’t the typical damsel in distress in the movie.  I love the love triangle between Valerie, Peter and Henry its just simply pure and sweet. OK! OK! there’s implicit flirting stuff. (haha).

The costumes were nicely done, periodic in fact like King Arthur’s time, and the makeup were so natural.   I love the big bad wolf in here, fierce and really scary!  Amanda Seyfield is perfect for the role of Valerie her eyes tells everything. I super love the red hooded cloak!

Red Riding Hood

Oh! If you think it will look more like the Twilight since it was directed by the same director , Catherine Hardwicke, you are wrong .

Red Riding Hood will be show in Philippine theaters on March 11, 2011 as distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

So, who do you think is the big bad wolf? You better watch to know, but take a wild guess for now!
