If the news I got from my reporter friends were true, former President Corazon “Cory” Aquino passed away today, August 1, 2009 at. The family of the former Philippines President known for the People Power Revolution or EDSA 1 will make a statement soon. I got the news around 5am and reporters are doing a stake-out outside the hospital awaiting news about former President Aquino at the Makati Medical Center they have been alerted that the Aquino family will soon be making a statement. The statement was made at 5:30am.
I thought it was a hoax since a week earlier news of the former president’s death afloat. Hurting more people especially friends and relative of the Cojuanco’s and Aquinos. But this time the news is true, President Cory Aquino is dead.
This was the news I got from Dax Lucas of Business Mirror and Sandra Aquinaldo of GMA 7 through Facebook and as soon as I found out I turned on the TV and there was live report and reporters outside the Makati Medical Hospital waiting for an important announcement.
A couple minutes more the Cory Aquino’s son Senator Noynoy Aquino came out with the dreadful announcement of the demise of his mother.
President Aquino died of cardio respiratory arrest at 3:18 am., August 1, 2009 Noynoy Aquino read the statement thanking everyone who prayed for their mom especially the 40 hour vigil at the EDSA Shrine that was started on July 30, 2009.
Details of the burial and funeral service will be aired later this morning.
Mrs. Aquino was diagnosed with colon cancer in March 2008, and has been confined at the Makati Medical Center since June 25.
My condolences to the family and friends of Cory Aquino. Former President Aquino died at the age of 76. She was the first Asian woman President. May she rest in peace.
Details for the wake of President Aquino was delivered by Deedee Sytanco and Senator Noynoy Aquino at 11AM same day. They informed everyone of the public viewing and wake for the former leader of the country. There will be a 2 day wake and public viewing of President Aquino that will be held at La Salle Greenhills starting today August 1, 2009 starting 5PM – 4AM . There will be a line for public which is at the Gate 5. While the line for media is at Gate 2. Masses will be held at 12nn and 8PM. A necrological service will be held at the Manila Cathedral.
