My mother used to make quilts from our old clothes that she doesn’t want to throw away, she is a pack-rat I tell you and she has more clothes than my sister and I combined, believe me! She has saved clothes from when my eldest brother was 3 years old and most of those clothes are really vintage and the fabric is still in good condition. Those were the days when fabric used on tailor made clothes are really high quality. The clothes sold on racks lately are wear and tear.
Anyway, it was nice to learn that Electrolux has taken their clothes donation drive up a notch by finding way to make use of donated clothes that could not be given to people in calamity-stricken areas or even sold in Ukay-ukay (Clothes like Toga’s, aprons)
This year, Electrolux, aside from continually collect and wash donated pre-loved clothes, has partnered with Gawad Kalinga Trese, who will in turn transform these left-over donated clothes into quilts for new born babies from orphanages and other communities.
“Quilts are traditionally made to preserve story told by each piece of fabric sewn to form it. In Delightful-E Simple to Share, these quilts will document a story of underprivileged moms helping new-born’s in need.” Ms. Andrea Pionilla, Marketing Manager of Electrolux Philippines.
In line with this, a #DelightfulE #SimpletoShare Instagram and Twitter Contest will be held from August 1 to September 30, 2014.
