How this Week Went ft San Miguel, Fujifilm, Esfolio, Pine-Sol , Godzilla, ACER, Pop Studio Makeup, and BU17 at City of Dreams

This post actually dates back to more than a week ago starting when we got back to Manila from our Pampanga trip.

I haven’t got a chance to blog about them all individually so this will be a summary.

The San Miguel Beer Kahit Kailan Walang Iwanan Campaign

#WalangIwanan

They divided the Whitespace venue to show the Side A and Side B or two different generations.

The first music video, “Side A”, perfectly captures how older drinkers partied in the day, complete with flared pants, long hair, disco music and San Miguel Pale Pilsen.

The second music video, “Side B”, is a more modern take, showing younger drinkers having fun in 2019, hitting clubs in street wear, showing off hip-hop moves, partying to electro beats, and enjoying the same San Miguel Pale Pilsen.

What sets this campaign apart from previous campaigns that have used dual mobile video executions is the merging of standalone songs from two contrasting genres to bridge the gap between generations. It is a triumph of painstaking filming, songwriting, choreography, and production design.

“Much has been said about the differences between millennials and the older generation,” said Bea Totanes, Brand Manager for San Miguel Pale Pilsen, “To make two contrasting generations realize that they actually have more in common, that is something I think we can be proud of as a brand.”

The videos are part of the brand’s campaign to celebrate lasting friendships with the theme “Kahit Kailan, Walang Iwanan.”

Godzilla King of Monsters

Godzilla King of Monsters Movie Review

We went to watch Godzilla King of Monsters and this is what Marcus thought about it.

Marcus Dreeke: 🎼 He picks up a bus and he throws it back down 🎶Go Go Godzilla! 🎶 On the way out of the theater, I heard someone say they liked everything except the cheesy song during the end credits. I had to say something. Yes, it’s a cheesy song, but it wasn’t something they created for the movie. That song is from Blue Oyster Cult in 1978, when the original Japanese Godzilla movies were airing on American television. And it must have made an impact on an 8-year-old me, because I still remembered the words.
As a person who remembers the original movies, I come to Godzilla with some hope that they’ll capture the original magic that made the story something people would want to make again in 2019. What is that magic? I can’t really say. Some of it is the comedy of a man in a costume stomping on a small model city, sparks flying as buildings fall over and Japanese people run for their lives. But the other part was wanting your favorite monster to win the battle.
Sadly, this movie fails on both these parts. The special effects are amazing. I can’t say it felt real. Real would have been seeing the destruction from the ground. They choose to take the high angle shots like in the original movies, so it’s more of a monster-eye-view of the destruction…which looks amazing, but I can’t say I felt the fear of a building falling on top of me.

The other things that is sadly missing , is monster fighting. There is a pretty good story with human characters doing what humans do. Most of the time, the movie is dealing with that. We really only see like… 3 monster fights. And these are pretty short and kind of Michael Bay style. So, sitting close with 3D glasses probably wasn’t the best idea.
Happily, humans do play a small part in the final outcome of the movie. When you see how effective bullets and missiles are against the monsters, you have to wonder why we try. I would have liked to see a more human element in the fight. As long as these people have known about the titans, you’d think they would come up with better ways to fight them. I know in the real world, that would be priority one.

It’s not a bad movie. It has action, monsters and great effects. But there are no hot babes, like in a King Kong movie. Oops! Did I just give away a secret?

I personally enjoyed the movie too but Marcus explained it more as he remembers even the song. It is the best Godzilla movie I can remember that was made ever and there are scenes and shot that was recreated from the past that made me nostalgic.
