When I went out for my events yesterday morning, the sun was shinning like it was a hot summer day. I was sweating like a pig even if I was wearing sleeveless and my hair was up on a messy bun. But right after lunch, it rained like crazy and me without an umbrella got myself wet in the rain.
By dinner, I was sneezing and I feel sick. I wanted to sleep but can’t because mostly when I have a cold, my entire aches with headaches and toothaches to match.
Since I was unsuccessful in sleeping my illness, I went down the kitchen and had my vitamin C fix. I had a glass of kalamansi juice I squeezed in my lemon infused water with honey and I ate a can of pineapple tidbids. Few minutes later, I was able to get some sleep.
An amazing study was commissioned by Del Monte Pineapple with the help of Leonora Palasigue and her team from PWU on the Effects of Canned Pineapple Consumption On Nutritional Status, Immunodulation, and Physical Health of Selected School Children found out that adding 2 servings of canned pineapples to your children’s daily diet helps increase production of Granulocyytes in the body.
Granulocytes are key components of the white blood cells and are important players of the immune system. They are the fighter cells that detect and kill disease-causing viruses and bacteria.
In the said study it found out that 2 servings of #DMPineappleADay, with 140g per servng, to your children’s daily diet goes a long way towards protecting them from sickness. This is the quick, easy, and delicious way of strengthening the kids immunity as a #DMPineappleADay helps in supplying the much needed nutrients like Vitamin C, Vitamin B2, fiber and manganese in the kids diet!
So how do you include fruits in your daily diet?
Del Monte, through their Del Monte Kitchenomics Club, has hundreds of recipes you can copy and use in your daily meal planning at home. Just like the Pineapple with Salted Caramel desserts and the Pineapple Milkshakes they served during the event at the M Cafe, these are fun and new ways to serve the Del Monte Pineapple that kids and adults alike can enjoy.
Mommy bloggers Glaiza and Louise even shared their stories on how they feed their kids fruits by including it in regular menus like Adobo with Pineapple Chunks or Pininyahang Manok and the like. Other moms in the event even shared they include it int heir kids sandwiches, just so their kids and family can consume fruits in their daily diet.
We talked about this because of a shocking truth that was found out on a recent survey by FNRI Food and Nutrition Research Institute with regards to food consumption, that there is a decreasing trend for fruit intake among Filipinos.
The Low intakes of fruit and vegetables were found among preschool children, school children, and adolescents . While adults elderly, pregnant and lactating mothers were still short of the recommended amount of fruit intake on their daily diet.
Including fruits and vegetables are the major source of Vitamin C and it is high time that Filipinos take conscious effort on their daily diet and include fruits and vegetables on their meal planning as this helps boost and strenghten the immune system.
Canned fruits, or canned Del Monte Pineapple taste better and is healthy just the same as the newly picked fruit. You don’t have to peel it and the itchy part of eating pineapple is not there anymore so it is more pleasant to have a #DMPineappleADay.
