Tips for Caring for Your Face

Facial skin is a lot more delicate than the skin on the rest of the body. Failing to take care of the face can lead to numerous problems including premature wrinkles and the formation of skin bumps. With an effective daily skin care regimen, most people will be able to keep their facial skin looking healthy and vibrant. Here are some important tips for caring for your face.

Gently wash the face
Most washcloths are far too harsh to be used on the face. After dousing the face with lukewarm water, use the hands to wash the face with gentle, circular motions. Extremely hot or cold water can shock the skin, which can lead to broken capillaries and wrinkling of the skin. After washing the face, a gentle facial toner can be used to restore the pH balance of the skin.


Use sunscreen
The powerful UV rays of the sun can have a detrimental impact on the skin. Applying a SPF lotion will help to minimize the effects of excessive exposure to the sun. A sunscreen is especially beneficial during the summer months. Neglecting to use an adequate level of sun protection will dramatically increase the rate of skin aging.

Do not use regular soap to wash the face
Regular bar soap has a tendency to over-dry the skin. This makes the skin appear dull with a lack of moisture. Depending on the ingredients, the bar soap will also clog the facial pores. Clogged pores can cause pimples and a slew of other skin ailments. Always select a gentle face wash that is labeled as being non-comedogenic.

Know the skin type
Everyone does not have the same skin type. This means that an individual needs to choose skin care products that are designed for their specific skin type. While some people have sensitive skin, there are others who have naturally oily skin. People with a normal skin type have a lot more flexibility in the type of products that they can use.

Maintain a healthy lifestyle
Sleep has a major impact on the health of facial skin. Everyone should strive to get at least seven hours of sleep a night.
