Throwback: My Parents Epic Wedding 41 Years Ago!

My parents set the bar for my dream wedding. If I can’t have the kind of wedding they had or the kinda fairy tale like whirlwind love story they had, I don’t want to get married at all. Hahahaha! Kidding!(Am I? Jokes are half-meant you know?! Hahahahaha!)

Magazine cover, yes my parents wedding was the cover of a very popular Ilocano magazine during that time (circulation was worldwide I saw letters all the way to Hawaii!) , Bannawag. Their wedding was tagged at the Wedding of the Year being the First Couple to have been successfully paired because of a couple-making section of Bannawag magazine, Dear Cupid. My parents wedding was all-expense paid by the magazine and their sponsors. All they need to do is show up for the wedding day!

The Love Story
My mom was 35 and my dad was 41 when they got hitched. They “met” through the magazine’s Dear Cupid section. According to what I read from the magazine coverage of their love story,my father wrote Dear Cupid back asking to meet my mom after he read my brother’s letter looking for a father and a husband for our mother. My father’s letter was in Ilocano as published in the magazine but according to my mom’s translation, my father said he could be the one.

Reading through all the exchange letter it appeared that mom was not replying at my father’s letter at all. So my father wrote back again and this time addressing his letter to my mom asking her to see him. Maybe all the forces in the universe conspired until the day mom agreed to see my father.

Mom said, the first time he saw my dad, he ran and leaped on him like a puppy dog choosing his human and the rest was history which lead to the wedding date!

My Parents Epic Wedding: The Honeymoon
Now with this epic wedding of my parents imagine how pressured me and my sister are when it comes to the kind of wedding ceremony we want to have. If we can’t have one like that we never wanna get married! Hahahaha!  My father left us almost 5 years ago  his death was also published at Bannawag, yes the magazine still exist and it is under Manila Bulletin Publishing, Bannawag is the Ilocano version of Liwayway)  but I can attest on how he was loyal to my mom despite of my moms annoying ways sometime,he was very loyal husband and a loving but strict father. He was my moms prince charming. Geez I’m such a mush!

Moral of the story:
My parents unexpectedly got married because the forces of the universe conspired to get them together, this is what you call destiny. So,those who think they will never ever get married at all because they think they are too old, or because they are single parents or whatever reason tied with age or having a child out of wed-lock, think again. Fairy tales do come true, my parents story is a proof. Just let the course of the universe do what it needs to do and in God’s time the thing to happen to you will happen.

How about you do you believe in fairy tales? How was your parents wedding like? Care to share your story too?
