The Chinese celebreate a different New Year as they follow the moon phase to decide the date and this year the new moon falls on January 26 marking the Chinese New Year celebration.
I’m gonna put on my witches hat and tell you about some rituals you can do to invite good luck in your homes and into your live.
- Start an extensive cleaning of your homes.
- It is best to do your spring cleaning on January 20th. On the last two or three days before the New Year stock on foods and gifts.
- Get a new pair of footwear (slippers, shoes, sandals).
- Wear red, red is always essential as this is the color of luck.
- Say a prayer.
- Eat dumplings and sticky sweet food like tikoy and chocolates. Bring harmony to the family.
- Have your rice container full.
- Eat long noodles for long life.
- Give out hongbao (or the red envelope) Don’t spend it’s contents and wait at least 3 months if you have to.
- It’s also lucky to recieve the red envelope.
- Do not sweep or clean the house at New Years don’t take a bath also.
- Stay at home on the 5th day after the Chinese New Year to welcome the God of Wealth it is bad luck to visit anyone this day. Do your visiting on the 6th day.
- On New Year’s day, it is improper to tell a lie, raise one’s voice, or use indecent languge; it is also considered unlucky to break anything.
- The New Year climaxes on the 15th day of the first moon with a lantern festival, highlighted by a dragon dance that in many places might stretch for more than a hundred feet in length.

If you were born in the year of the RAT
This year is a stable year for family life and will be a joyful year. Career wise the rats will take on more responsibilities and will feel the pressure of the extra duties. A good year of steady progress.
