I didn’t expect it to be as fast as this. I signed up for a 3 month $1 plan of blog hosting at Moms Hosting Sunday night and now my blog is up and about. I moved out of Blogspot to WordPress in less than two days. Now I have my own web host and got a new template! Yay!
Thank You to Mommy Ruby, the owner of Moms Hosting, she really knows how to take care of her clients, she guided me through the tedious step-by-step process that took a lot of her hours, and a numb butt for me.
If you are thinking of moving your Blogspot hosted blogs to WordPress (if you already have your own domain) then go to Moms Hosting and talk to Ruby. If you don’t have a domain then you can also consult her. I got my domain almost three months ago from Google via Blogspot, when you try to create a blog they have an option there regarding purchasing a domain. I got mine for $10 a year.
I know everyone wants to know the feedback and how I did. It’s not as hard as it seem, well it will be hard if you do it alone, but with a competent guide like Ruby it’s a breeze. The only problem I encountered during the move was my internet service provider, Smart Bro, who is providing me with intermittent internet connection for more than three weeks already! Oh another stumbling block I encountered was this bug about the importing of post and comments from Blogspot to WordPress but aside from that everything went well.
Step-by-step process of the move at Moms Hosting (I’m not so sure if the procedure is the same with other providers)
1) Purchase/Sign-up at a Web/Blog Host provider (like Moms Hosting). If you want to familiarize yourself with the system it is best to get an affordable plan and get a plat with someone you can actually talk online to guide you all the way.
2) Then remove your domain from Blogspot (assuming you already have a domain like I have).
3) Change name servers. The details will be provided by your Blog Host Provider. You can change your name servers by logging in your Google Apps. Go to Domain and access your DNS server. Click on your DNS and you will be prompted for your user name and password.
Once your in you will see a number of details where you will find the Nameserver tab. Click on it and click on custom and input the details your provider will give you.
Changing the Nameserver is one of the most crucial part of moving out to be able to propagate your website on other browsers.
4) After changing Nameservers your Blog host will ask for your details like full name and main email to set-up your account with your webhost.
After that you will see 404 not found when you input your blog URL which means your blog has been propagated and will be accessible in a few hours. Mine got accessible in 6 hours.
5) After a couple of hours check if your URL is now accessible then proceed to install WordPress on your domain via your control panel.
6) Then we proceed to importing of post from Blogspot to WordPress. This took a couple of hours yesterday, Monday, since my internet connection is intermittent probably for someone with good internet connection it will take lesser time.
We also have to stop with the importing because of the glitch in the WordPress system that doesn’t allow the exporting so I had to open a free WordPress account where I imported all my post from my blogger blog and then from there I imported it by downloading it to an XML file and then imported it to my self hosted blog. It’s easier than it sound believe me!
It took us this long because I have to beg-off at 3:30PM yesterday because I have to attend a dinner at TGI Fridays Malate and got home at 11PM too late to bother Ruby because she is pregnant and went to sleep.
7) So today is where I get to download a Filezilla (FTP server) and upload my new template! Weeeeeeee so pretty! Right now I am doing some tweaking, integrating my widgets and ads and still figuring out how I can change that lorem ipsum dolor on that About box and I can’t find that about.txt editor.
That’s about it really. Very easy steps to follow! I hope my web host provider doesn’t have long downtime if ever. I heard some scary experience of other who took them months before their blog was up.
So there you have if folks, Earthlingorgeous.com is bigger and better! Weeeeeeee! Now I have a lot of backlog post to do!
What do you think of my new template by the way? 🙂
