Is Your Neighborhood Safe?

There’s a law in the U.S. protecting criminal offenders in parole by not divulging their real identity so they can live a normal life and away from discrimination while in probation. While this protects the interest of the offender it is somehow unfair for the rest of the population who are law abiding citizens.

There was a mom blog I read who wrote about her horrifying story about a sex offender living in their neighborhood. Because of this law they didn’t know that the new guy who had just move in next door was one. One day while out in the park with her kids and some neighborhood she accidentally saw this man peeking at his window with binoculars on. At first she thought the guy was just enjoying the nice view outside so she ignored the incident. The next day same time they were out in the park with the kids as usual.  She again accidentally saw the man in the window with his binoculars this time the man was naked and enjoying the view of the kids at play.  She was horrified by the sight and immediately called her kids out of the playground and in to their home and called 911 .  The police came and confronted the man.  After the interrogation she was told by the police officers that the guy was a sex offender on parole but she shouldn’t worry because they will keep their eye on him.

This did not comfort the woman.  The discovery was very traumatic for her and so after this she made a campaign to Find Sex Offenders by creating a database that can help anyone track a sex offender on parole. Although this is against the law, you can’t stop parents like her to get worried especially if there are criminal elements lurking around. After all we all have the right to know if our neighborhood is safe or not.
