Illustrado, a Dubai-based magazine devoted to uplift Filipinos in the region and around the world advocates the upliftment of the moral and profile of our community on an international level – particularly that of Filipino women.
They produced The Empowered Filipina – a mini-documentary done in collaboration with Dubai-based Kamil Roxas who won the Hayah Category at the 2008 Middle East Film Festival. This film carries the message of empowerment which is the core of our project – and that is a call for Filipinas to uplift themselves despite prevalent negative stereotypes.
The 20 minute film has been created not only to make Filipinos aware of the effects of Pinay stereotyping, especially here in the Gulf, but most importantly to create that “spark” of positive action that will encourage each Filipina to carve a better future for herself and develop love for self, confidence and self-respect.
The film will be premiered at our 27th March 2010 event in Dubai, and we will be coordinating with the Philippine diplomatic corps in the Gulf, Europe and Asia, Filipino schools and community clubs, as well as Philippine-based universities, NGOs, religious and civic organizations for screening events to ensure that the positive message and its benefit, reaches a wide audience.
Illustrado would like to make a statement and they want the Filipina voice to be heard out loud. In line with this I would like to request your kind support by helping us identify and secure screening opportunities within your own sphere of influence – within your civic org, in your province/town, alma mater, or at relevant events, or even by way of recommendation to your contacts, wherever you are in the world.
The screening could be done simply with a computer/laptop and a projector and screen to as many people as possible, Illustrado will courier you the HD and DVD version of the film on convenient CD so you can use and distribute.

I believe that were on the modern era and although many filipinas are really great, many people still thinks that were only woman and woman are not that equal to man. I think, it’s already time that men develop the mentality that were not trying to surpass them but were just giving our best for them to see that we can also do what they can.
This is good even though we know even in these times women are being held of their rights, some still stand out make themselves heard…
