I believe social media drastically changed the way people view a brand, service, advocacy or personality these days because we are no longer limited to what is printed and broadcasted in the traditional media.
Before, when a popular media personality or celebrity endorses something its like an absolute, no questions asked “Because I said so, it is so.” Now with the internet readily available to everyone influence is no longer ruled by popular celebrities, but by intelligent consumer themselves. The tagline of a popular shampoo brand is so appropriate now “You try, you decide”.
In the past two to almost 3 years of my blogging commercially it is only in the past 2 years that I experienced the power of social media, particularly of blogs when a number of different PR agencies and companies (big, small or just starting up) would contact me to blog about them. To me it is amazing and a privilege. It was amazing because big brands acknowlege my blogs “influence”. It was a privilege because I get first dibs on just about everything I am interested to blog about. With my blogging, a lot of opportunities have presented itself, this included posting advertorials, banner and text ads, and holding blog promotions and contest. (Read my blog disclosure on top)
I heard that the Public Relations Society of the Philippines (PRSP) will be having its PR 2.0 17th National Public Relations Congress at the Grand Ballroom of Intercontinental Manila Makati on September 23 and 24, 2010 with the theme: “PR2.0 Build. Engage. Deliver.”
The PR 2.0 17th National Public Relations Conference will tackle the rapid changes in the practice of PR and communications with the advent of social media and personalized communications (blogs). They will also talk about the challenges and opportunities in building brands and communities of advocates, in audience and consumer engagement, and in delivering value and results to organization and community at large.
Its such an interesting topic that I would like to know more about and I wish I could get a free delegate pass so I can get more inputs and become a better social media practitioner. 🙂
Please help me get in the conference by clicking the like button at the end of this post. Thank you in advance.
Stay gorgeous everyone!

Hi Danielle thanks 🙂
I couldn’t agree with you more on this once upon a time I would run out and buy something because this model or actor said it was the things to get. Fastforward to today and I dismiss all the celebrity nonsense and I straight to the real consumers to find out what works. I go to YouTube to hear reviews from people like me. Great post by the way!!!
