It is heart-warming to know that people from rich countries see the Philippines as a place where they can learn genuine love and caring for the members of the families and even the community.
Hajime Yokota, founder of ACTION (A Child Trust in Our Nurture) Foundation, an NGO in Zamboanga who helps abused and abandoned children is from Japan and he tells good things about the Philippines being a place of warmth (not just the weather) but the people. People are very friendly and loving and everyone almost know and befriend everyone. Unlike in Japan where most of the people are snobbish that is why their country ends up in 30,000 people suicidal each year because of depression.
Mr. Yokata came in the Philippines when he was 17, almost two decades ago, and he saw the potential of Filipino kids he lived and worked for at a foundation when he arrived. Since then he promised himself when he is able he will help such kids leading him into putting up ACTION.
This year, Hajime decided to expand his foundations reach and the kind of help he can give to children in need. So he collaborated with JURO Salon Exclusif, one of the country’s leading experts in hair styling, in a project they called ‘The Power of Scissors’.
The Power of Scissors had its pilot session with class of 16 students aged 12 and above from different local institutes. This project gathers specialist from Japan and the Philippines to educated these children in the art of cut and color. Jude and Rose Hipolito, owners of JURO is part of the mentors in this project and are proud to be teaching kids their craft of hair cut and styling. By September these kids wil graduate in this class and hopefully when they get old decides to practice too.
Aside from this project, Mr. Yokata also plans to publish a book entitled ‘Nais Kong Magin’ (What I want to be) Which is like a professional and job guidance book with about 100 types of job opportunities for the underprivileged and out-of-school youth. This book is not just a guide though as it will contain companies from Japan and in the Philippines who holds scholarships for each profession/ job listed.

This just shows how the initiative of one person can help many people.
