CPK Pizza Wars 2016 Year 2

Where does pizza come from?

Honestly, I don’t know. But I do know where they’re going — straight into my tummy.   I think if I was made to choose a type of food I’m only allowed to eat for the rest of my life, I will pick pizza.  While there are the classic flavors like the all time favorite hawaiin pizza, there’s is so many ways to have your pizza, the possibilities are endless.

What is pizza wars?   It’s not about tossing pizza slices at each other, it is more about challenging creativity and take their culinary skills to next level plus creating new artisanal pizza flavors to include in the menu of California Pizza Kitchen Philippines (CPK) .  This is the main goal for having the CPK Pizza Wars when they began doing it two years ago.

For the finals of the CPK Pizza Wars 2016, they had celebrity chefs Sau Del Rosario and Sandy Daza, together with CPK President and CEO  of Global Concepts , Inc Archie Rodriguez and Griffith Go as judges.

Three pizza makers from different CPK branches in the country compete for the final round.  Rodel Pico (who has in his uniform printed Hugo Pico) of CPK Bonifacio Global City made the pizza that won this years CPK Wars.  He made the Anchovies + Goat Cheese Pizza combining the salty and savory distinctiveness of anchovies while sofetening it up wth the sweetness of caramelized onions and green apples.  I knew this one will be the winner the moment I saw it.

The two other pizza maker who made interesting pizza concoctions is Noel Araneta of CPK Greenbelt 5 who made the pizza Cod with Mango Cucumber Salsa Pizza, an Asian inspired dish with may sweet chili sauc base, goat cheese and mozzarella, topped with friend codfish and special homemade mango cucumber salsa.  Jerric Venezuela of CPK Alabang did the Dynamite Shrimp Pizza – a fiery fiesta of seafood spices.

The winning pizza will be available on August 2016 as part of the National Pizza Day and eventually will become a mainstay on the CPK menu which will roll out during the last quarter of the year.
