How to Have a Fun and Safe Christmas Shopping

Most of the Filipino workers here in the Philippines have received full or half of their Christmas bonus or their 13th months pay. In other parts of the world people do their shopping right after Thanksgiving. The first and second week of December is the best time to do the Christmas shopping since sales are everywhere, shopping malls and bazaars.

Like the no-stress Christmas schedule I laid out earlier for everyone, December 7-13 or the second week of December is the best dates to do your Christmas shopping (just right after you’ve done your inventory of the things you need and your shopping and gift list the first week of December).

Since sales are everywhere and almost everyone is in the spending mood expect crowded malls and shopping venues. With that in mind there is a great possibility that there will be pick-pockets blending in the crowd or there’s a chance that your kids will get lost in the pool of people.

Here are fun and safe ways to enjoy your Christmas shopping.

General Reminder:
1) List down items you want to buy for them and map out which shop or stall you will head first.
2) Use a handy body bag to keep your valuables like cash and cellphone. If possible just bring your allocated budget and don’t bring your credit cards to prevent you from overspending!
3) If also possible, since there are so many thieves lurking during this season instead of cash use paper money or gift certificates to shop and just have with you the cash you need for transportation and food.
4) Allocate a shopping date with your kids just to buy kids stuff and nothing else.
5) Allocate a shopping day for your own shopping for gifts and your personal stuff.
6) Allocate a shopping day for your grocery and if possible don’t bring your kids when you do this to have a fast stress free shopping.

Tips on shopping with kids:

  • Since they will hold their Christmas parties in their school earlier than anyone else it will be good to allocate a day where you will shop with your kids.
  • Make sure to go to the mall/ bazaar or any shopping venue you plan taking them during the opening time since there will be less people during those hours. Usually, shoppers troop shopping venues after or during lunch time. With less crowded shopping venue you still have time to look around and find the best deals since the items are not scattered all over the place compared to going where there are lots of people.
  • There is also less chance that your kids can get lost in the crowd because you can give full attention to the kids and not crunching or getting harassed to get items you want to buy for them.
  • There will be less chance to get victimized by pick-pocketers because those thieves target people who literally have their mind occupied looking out for their kids and shopping at the same time.
