Canon IXUS 95 IS Product Review

If you are a fashion conscious snapper (kikay) the Canon Digital IXUS 95 IS is the perfect inexpensive point-and-shoot camera for any spur-of-the-moment captures. The 10 megapixel is good enough to provide the crisp definition of images you want especially if you don’t really need high definition images.

The Canon Digital IXUS 95 IS (also know as the Canon PowerShot SD1200 IS) key features include a 3x zoom lens with Optical Image Stabilization, a 2.5 inch LCD screen, DIGIC 4 processor, new Smart AUTO mode, and Anti-Blur and Face Detection technologies. The Canon IXUS 95 IS is available now in silver, grey, blue and pink.

I won’t go too techy on this review as I am not a professional photographer. What I am going to share is my experience as someone who loves taking photos and as someone who owns and used three point-and-shoot digital cameras.

Appearance:

The round corners of this camera is perfect for someone who is always on the go. The colors are perfect for fashion conscious snapper. I so love the hot pink I got for review that I don’t want to use my super plain gray Sony Cybershot camera anymore.

Ease of use:

If you’re someone who doesn’t play much with camera features you can go perfectly using the Smart Auto mode. “This uses Canon’s Scene Detection Technology to analyse the shooting scene in detail – checking subject brightness, contrast, distance and overall hue. The camera then instantly selects one of 18 possible modes, to ensure perfect settings for the scene.” In short it easily focuses your subject, weather it be an object, person or scenery, without having the images blur.

However, for someone who is more adventurer with regards to taking their photos and likes taking pictures manually this could be a problem as the Image Stabilizer does not work without using the flash. Same thing goes with the Anti-Blur technology which is a turn-off for me since I don’t use the flash for my photo’s that much.

To make the Face Detection technology work you should press the shutter button halfway, will make a beeping sound and green frames will appear when the subject is on focus. The camera won’t take a photo until the face is on focus so your subject should better stay put or you will have to wait forever. The Face Detection Technology can register multiple faces in a frame and adjusts settings for better results. Face Self-Timer simplifies group shots or self portraits by waiting until the user enters the frame before shooting. Auto Red-Eye Correction removes the unwanted red-eye effect caused by flash photography, either during or after shooting.

I also noticed that this does not have the color accent feature where you can take a shot of a particular subject and focus on one color.

Overall, the Canon IXUS 95 IS is pretty much what you’d expect to find on an entry-level point-and-shoot digital camera toward the higher end of the price scale for its class. Price: 19,950 (brand new) but I saw it sold online for as low as $129 or just above Php6,000.
