This guy is Dex, the lead vocalist for the band Letter Day Story who is behind the hits “Ikaw Pa Rin” and “Pasitib . The first time I met this band was at the Yehey’s Pop Pinoyan last December 2008. I think they were great, but I didn’t get their names. I met them again last Tuesday, August 4, 2009 at the Kick off party of Nescafe 3-in-1 Soundskool and I learned they were the 2008 Soundskool champion. I’m very much impressed.
I got a copy of their album Sulat, Araw, Kwento and they all signed it hoorah! Thanks to Nescafe 3-in-1 for the opportunity.
Letter Day Story said one of the main factors that attracted them to join the competition was the intensive series of workshops conducted by some of the local music industry’s bigwigs. “It (the workshop series) was a refresher course on how we as young musicians can improve various elements that contributed to our bands’ overall performance. What was so special and nerve-wracking about the workshops was that we were taught by artists like Sandwich’s Raymund Marasigan and music executives from Sony BMG Philippines,” said Letter Day Story’s bassist Oliver Agustin.
NESCAFÉ 3in1 Soundskool is an inter-collegiate competition open to young, unsigned bands in the Philippines. From its beginnings as a battle among student bands in the Greater Manila Area in 2005, the competition has become of the country’s most anticipated music events. NESCAFÉ 3in1 Soundskool has produced some of the Philippines hottest young bands, including Hilera and Letter Day Story.
This year, NESCAFÉ 3in1 Soundskool is widening its reach to around 400 colleges and universities nationwide. NESCAFÉ 3in1 Soundskool sets itself apart from other music competitions because it not only makes participants experience fame — it also provides opportunities that help young artists build on their craft to become better overall performers.
This years theme is “Huwag Na Magtago! Magparamdam Ka Na!” Aside from the intense music training workshop, one-on-one mentoring with some of the Philippine music’s hottest performers, and a live jam session with their idols during the Grand Awards Night, 13 finalist bands from different parts of the country will compete for PhP250,000 and a record label deal with Sony Music Philippines.
