There is no good food or bad food there are only good and bad diets. That is what Cora Sager, head of Corporate Wellness of Nestle Philippines and Nutritionist told us yesterday during the I Choose Wellness Netizens event at the Nestle Philippine in Makati.
Moderation, variety and balance are the key to a good diet that leads to a persons good health and wellness, she said.
Moderation is providing enought but not too much on each type of food. It is actually bad to deprive yourself of the food that you want to eat. Because the more you refrain from eating certain food you like the more you will crave for it.
Portion control is the key. Sager said it is better to have a taste of everything but not too much of it. The best technique that work is by using small plate rather than big plate. Because more often than not you will be too lazy to go back for a second helping once you finished up your plate.
Eating a wide selection of food is the best way to health. The more colorful your food is the better! Also, do not stick to one way of cooking food especially frying.
Here is a sample of a balanced diet. Imagine this is your plate. Half of your plate must be filled with carbs, one fourth should be filled with protein and one fourth should be filled with fruits or vegetable.
Sager said half of a cheek of a ripe mango per meal is good enough per meal. Just make sure to have another one on your next meal to complete your fruit and vegetable intake.
Here is another way to look at it with regards to how to serve your Go, Glow and Grow Foods.
Fad diets is a no no! It is also important to take 8 glasses of water daily for your liquid intake ! Coffee with cream or sugar doesn’t count, softdrink doesn’t count, juice doesn’t count. Water is still the best way to loose weight. If you want to loose weight it is very important to have a Big Breakfast everyday because this supplement all your energy for the day that you don’t need to eat so much during the rest of the day. No wonder Nestle focuses more on breakfast products like cereal, coffee and drinks.
