I received this ReboundTag Microchip Bag Tag a couple months ago and I was suppose to use it for our Boracay trip but completely forgot about it. I was suppose to give it to my sister since she is more of a jet setter than me, and she visits not just Asian countries but Middle Eastern, European and soon the U.S.A , so she can see how effective this microchip bag tag is but I forgot to give it to her before she left because we are all so caught up with the Holiday business.
According to the RebounTag website, there is about 42 million lost luggage last year and many airports worldwide need proof of your ownership of the luggage you are claiming like receipts, ID, passport and other identification.
This is one invention they made to solve lost luggage problem, its one of those famous RFID system for luggage. Since the tag has microchip, identifying ownership of the tag is very easy, as long as you have registered your tag and made an input of your complete details in their website www.reboundtag.com. In case you are the owner of the lost luggage, you will receive a text (SMS message) from the airport or airline about the whereabouts of your luggage.
However I have several concerns about the ReboundTag, same reason I am having apprehensions in using it:
- Since I need to register the tag with all my pertinent information like complete name, address, phone number, travel details and the like I feel unsafe about it as websites are prone to hacking and all my details can be used for identity theft, fraud and other illegal activities. I can also be prone to stalking.
- The tag can be easily removed from the luggage so a switch can happen more likely. Not all airport and airline staff and personnel are honest, if you know what I mean. Because if they are then there would be no lost luggage at all in the first place.
- Are all airport and airlines worldwide oriented and trained about this microchip tag? Are all airports and airlines are equipped with the device to be able to send out the text message to the owner.
- Not everyone has the luxury of time, especially the airport and airline personnel to go online and report a lost luggage carrying the ReboundTag, probably unless there is a reward that comes along with reporting that the item is found.
- I read that you keep your tag anonymous to the airport and airline all they can access your contact details or anyone who reports the lost luggage. What if a dishonest person found your luggage contact you and tell you where to get the luggage. Scary!
The patent for the ReboundTag Microchip Bag Tag is still pending by the way so I guess there’s not much using it yet and not all airport and airlines are familiar with it.
