Sex Trafficking, Poverty And The Present Administration

I tried searching for President Noynoy Aquino platform on poverty alleviation and his program about child labor, human trafficking and child prostitution and education but I didn’t see one. I hope he allocates the time, money, drive and people to do programs about this because its one of our serious problem.  Its also one of the eight millennium development goals.

I’m glad there are private entities such like The Body Shop who recently launched their global campaign to Stop Sex Trafficking of Children and Young People they are doing the campaign alongside ECPAT (End Child Prostitution, Child Pornography and the Trafficking of Children for Sexual Purposes) and it aims to raise awareness and vital funds for victims or those at risk of trafficking.

Did you know that the Philippines ranks 4th in the world in terms of countries with the highest number of prostituted children. According the the UN data there are 60,000 to 100,000 children are trafficked annually (through both cross-border & internal trafficking), and most of these girls are to be sexually exploited.

What is sex trafficking?

Sex trafficking is the sexual exploitation of a human being for the purpose of another’s financial gain or sexual gratification. In sex trafficking the merchandise is transported, sometimes from region to region, usually South to North, sometimes from block to block. Trafficking may or may not be the product of overt force and deception but it is always the product of inequality.

Poverty drove people to do this things, willingly or unwillingly.

Stop Sex Trafficking Campaign

I wasn’t able to attend the launch of the campaign but I was able to sign the online petition of the Stop Sex Trafficking campaign.  You too can sign the petition here and tell the authorities to do something about this, end poverty, alleviate the lives of our children and lets not deprive them of their childhood because our children is our future.

You can also help by purchasing the Soft Hands Kind Hearts Hand Cream (Php195.00) or the Stop Sex Trafficking Bag For Life (Php295.00) or make a donation to ECPAT.
