Lacoste Polo Watch L.12.12. Manila Launch

It seems we still have a slight hang-over from watching International Tennis Superstars play live in Manila for IPTL as the launch of the Lacoste Polo Watch L.12.12. was a tennis themed event. Everyone got to play tennis and compete with other guest via Wii!

A makeshift tennis court greeted everyone promting a lot of photographs taken at the unique and fun backdrop.

So you ask, what’s the significance of tennis to Lacoste Polo Watch L.12.12.?

Well, although it is iconic and recognizable, not many know the story behind the crocodile logo and the classic cotton petit pique poloshirt.

I never knew until today that that tennis legend Rene Lacoste designed the iconic shirt in 1927. And that the crocodile logo came after a crocodile bag he was given after winning a tennis match. The crocodile to signify his tenacity on the court.

Rene Lacoste created a uniform that would allow for better sweat absorption and freedom of movement. He named it L.12.12 – L for Lacoste, 1 for its one-of-a-kind fabric. 2 for its short sleeves, and 12 for the number of the final version of the design he selected for production. Heralding the birth of contemporary sportswear, the L.12.12 has remained a beloved wardrobe staple for the elegantly athletic.

Today, Lacoste’s sporting spirit is reignited in the Lacoste.12.12 watch collection, with a timely launch on December 12, 2014 held by country distributor Artful Marketing, Inc. (a
subsidiary of the Lucerne Group) and global licensee Movado Group, Inc.

The L.12.12. Watch collection is available in six confident colors; grey, red, blue, white, green and black which are the classic colors of the Lacoste Polo Shirt where the watch design come from. Intricate details such as the light airy pique fabric polo shirt’s unique signature is faithfully echoed on the watch by an attractive petit pique mesh effect running around the case sides and along the soft-touch silicone strap and the legendary green crocodile on the 3 o’clock position.
