This year, Earth Hour Philippines will celebrate the ‘Gift of Light’ by providing solar lamps to light up off-grid island communities in the country. The Gift of Light project’s initial beneficiaries will be from the island of Palawan.
Did you know that around 15 million Filipinos do not have access to electricity and just rely on kerosene gas lamps to keep their homes illuminated at night time? By donating to WWF you will be able to lessen the fossil-fuel emitting kerosene, help light up homes in Palawan and harness the power of the sun to illuminate homes and change lives! Jose Angelito Palma was recently named as the new President and CEO of WWF-Philippines. Known for his works in DENR’s Sea Turtle Conservation Projects and the Species Conservation Programs. He succeeds Jose Ma. Lorenzo Tan, now Vice-Chairman of the WWF-Philippines National Advisory Council. Also present during the media launch yesterday are event hosts and WWF-Philippines National Ambassadors Marc Nelson and Rovilson Fernandez, Earth Hour Ambassador Mikee Cojuangco-Jaworski, WWF-Philippines Chairman Vicente Perez Jr., Ms. Maria Isabel Garcia, Mr. Aurelio Montinola, Atty.
