The Philippine politics is getting more interesting each day as the election nears. On the last day of August aspiring Presidential candidates for the 2010 election attended a fun run at The Fort, Taguig as initiated by GMA7. They even signed a pledge to do their best to secure a clean and honest election. Although I think that was useless, since the one holding the position right now was not there, the act was laudable.
During the pressconference that day, someone asked the Presidential wanna be’s an interesting question. “If there is a candidate that will emerge that is capable to unite everyone and is capable to do the change we all wish, are they willing to step down from their candidacy or you are all determined.”
Makati Mayor Jojomar Binay, Senator Kiko Pangilinan and Senator Mar Roxas were among those who said they are willing if that candidate really deserves it. Because there is a clamor for a the one candidate from the opposition against the administration candidate.
The next day, Septemeber 1, Senator Mar Roxas had a press conference at Club Filipino telling the world he is backing off as a Presidential Candidate in 2010 and hands down the candidacy to Senator Noynoy Aquino.
I felt kind of weird with the announcement, I think the sincerity was not there and I can see how he doesn’t want to do it but had too. Second was Nonoy never announced the desire to run as president, the announcement was premature. Kumbaga di pa nakakapagdecide si Noynoy pinangunahan na agad ni Mar para di siya mapahiya?
Anyway, September 2, Noynoy told the world that he still needs more time to think about it. I can see how uneasy he was and unprepared for such a big responsibility. I think he is still weighing the circumstances. If he is not ready let’s not push the guy. Just because he is the son of Ninoy and Cory. Baka naman sa masyado nating pagbilib eh baka madismaya tayo pag may nagawa syang palpak if ever na tatakbo sya at mananalo. But if we want a united force to boot out the one in place then like what his father did he can be sacrificed.
The death of Ka Erdy Manalo the leader of Iglesia ni Cristo also happened last September 1. There are thoughts that his death can somehow affect their support to an aspiring Presidential candidate who had been investing in his candidacy for so long now.
Eight months and six days before the 2010 election and the fun begins. Let’s see if they can last until the filing of candidacy in October 2009 and the real election campaign period for the 2010 Presidential elections.
