I’ve been closely monitoring the Kindle since August last year and I’ve been dying to get my hands on it. But since it wasn’t global wireless yet, meaning its not usable here in the Philippines yet, I decided to delay my purchase.
Just this month though, Amazon.com, Inc. introduced Kindle DX with Global Wireless – a new version of the 9.7-inch wireless reading device now with the convenience of wireless content delivery in over 100 countries! Philippines included!
I want my hand on the 6-inch kindle, it’s their best selling product at Amazon. But I think the 9.7 incl Kindle DX with Global Wireless is the better choice since it has an auto-rotate capability and can store up to 3,500 books compared to the 1,500 books storage capability of the 6 inches version.
I also heard if you order within the the next 18 hours you will be able to deliver your Kindle DX with Global Wireless to you by tomorrow, January 28. The 9 inch display is sold at $489 at while the 6 inch display is for $259 only!
Why do I want a Kindle ?
1) I want to get rid of my paperback books. Actually the family is thinking of donating the loads of books we have at home, that is fire hazard too, at the public library. Getting a Kindle DX is very practical and convenient since it can store 1,500 to 3,500 books! Practically carrying my library in 10.2 ounces!
2) I can transfer personal documents in my Kindle using a USB anytime. There is an option to store it online via Whispernet but there is fee of $.99 per megabyte. Learn more
3) I can download e-books Books in Under 60 Seconds: Think of a book and you could be reading it in under a minute! Awesome!
4) Free Wireless: Free 3G wireless lets you download books right from your Kindle. No monthly fees, service plans, or hunting for Wi-Fi hotspots. For non-U.S. customers, there are also no additional charges for wireless delivery in or outside your home country. See Coverage Map. See Wireless Terms and Conditions . Wireless download times can vary based on 3G or EDGE/GPRS coverage, signal strength and file size.
5) Growing Selection: Over 340,000 English-language books to choose from; plus U.S. and international newspapers and magazines are available for your country. Because publishers give us eBook rights on a country by country basis, available titles for your country will vary from our current U.S selection. We are actively working with publishers to get the rights to all titles for every country and adding this selection every day. Check the Kindle Store to see available titles.
6) Low Book Prices: New York Times® Best Sellers and New Releases are $11.99, unless marked otherwise. You’ll also find many books for less – over 130,000 titles are priced under $5.99
7) Although its not yet available here in the Philippines blogs and the experimental web browser are available in the US, Canada, UK, Australia. I can’t wait that it will be available here soon!
8) There’s a 1 year warranty for every purchase.

Kindle is actually a very good device, but for book lovers like me, nothing beats the tactile touch of a book in the palms of my hands.

Although I love books and I love holding and smelling them as much as reading them, I still want a kindle! I want a portable library so bad. 🙁 I wish it’d get cheaper.
