Where The Wild Things Are Movie Review

I saw the movie screening of  Where the Wild Things Are at My Cinema in Greenbelt 3 in Makati today and it took me a couple of hours to process the movie in my head.

For sure the movie is something an average child would not enjoy because of the many symbolism surrounding the film.   The movie information said it was about a child’s imagine and maybe because I am an adult I wasn’t able to grasp what the fun side of the film.  Either or the movie was bit of a drag I think.

The movie was about an hour and 45 minutes but I believe some of the scenes were not necessary at all especially some scenes at where the wild things are.

Story wise, I don’t recommend it for kids. As a parent I wouldn’t want my child to believe that he can misbehave and get away with it like Max does in the movie.  But if your kids like to see monsters and some “wild” bashing,  smashing, slamming and running then take with you, just make sure to remind your kids that they are not allowed to behave that way.

However, I came up with this conclusion after a couple of hours processing the movie in my head.  The Wild Things are a representation of Max’s characteristics and insecurities in life.  The part when Max left the island kinda made me teary eyed though.

Would I recommend you to watch the movie? I did warn you that it was a drag, highly parental guidance movie not suitable for very young audiences because of the mature storyline.

Synopsis:

This movie is an adaptation of a children book “Where the Wild Things Are” a classic story about childhood and the places we go to figure out the world we live in.

It’s a story about a rambunctious and sensitive boy named Max who feels he is misunderstood at home and escapes to Where the Wild Things Are.   He ran away with his imagination taking him to a place where he think he can be the king of the world and make everything better according to his liking.
