An environmental advocacy short film entitled Project Noel was premiered at Podium last March 24, 2010 which serves as the legacy the outgoing Miss Philippines-Earth Batch 2009 will leave as they turn-over the torch to the Miss Phillippines-Earth Batch 2010 that will be crowned on April 25, 2010.
Project Noel is a project of the Miss Earth Foundation, the Miss Philippines-Earth Batch 2009, Carousel Productions Inc., SM Cinemas and Manila Water that aims to teach the value of resource management and instill in each one of us the responsibility towards Mother Earth.
In this short film Joel Jairus plays Noel, a young boy who was inspired by his father Jojit Lorenzo, a garbage collector, and is fond of gathering waste materials, taking pride in finding ways how to recycle them. Noel is a scholar in a private school and soon engaged in a school art project about the environment in a bid to represent the school in a nationwide contest.
The beauty queens themselves took on technical roles to make this production possible, from conceptualization to leg work during the shoot day itself. Project Noel is co-produced with Marcus Phoenix Media Production and directed by Jon Steffan Ballesteros.
Since 2006, all outgoing Miss Philippines-Earth batches leaves with their own projects. Batch 2006 came up with a book entitled Bakawan, published by Adarna Books and is now being used in the Bright Minds Read Program of the Department of Education and Philippine daily Inquirer Read Alongs. Batch 2007 produced their own reusable bags which they called I Love ME (Mother Earth, Miss Earth). Batch 2008 embarked on a 20,000 tree planting challenged where they were able to plant thousands of trees in Albay and Zamboanga.
