Most people from the Manila blogging scene are excited at this Friday event where we were asked to “Dress to Kill – Come in a 50’s inspired outfit“. The invite is so appealing and intriguing and I admit I got a bit giddy. We don’t get to dress-up often so I openly welcome such invites with dress codes especially like this.
With my excitement I went to search for the 1950’s fashion and here is what I found out.
- Ladies Gloves were in
- Fedora hats were famous in men
- Petticoat skirts and dresses were in
- Unique hats and bonnets for women
- Polkadots and florals were the famous print
- Leather and denim jackets
- Pump heels and stockings for women
- Shirt waist dresses were popular
- Cardigans
- Pencil cut skirt
- Beatles, Elvis Prestley were hot (Rock ‘n Roll!)
- Che Guevara, Vietnam War, Korean War
Here are some photos to give you more visuals of what a 1950’s inspired outfit would look like :
These looks are a combination of the shirt waist dresses and pencil cut look.
These looks were inspired by the petticoat skirts, shirt waist dress and polka dot prints.

Shirt waist dress, pencil cut skirt, unique hats, and gloves
But here’s the real deal 1950’s fashion:
So, do you know now what to wear tonight?
I think I’ll pull-off a cardigan, polka dots, pump heels, stockings, and maybe a hat hehe! Just maybe! Or…
Chances of rain is most probable tonight/today so you can also wear jeans. High waisted jeans are 50’s look, pair it with an off shoulder floral top and bring with you some cardigan or a nice coat or denim jacket to protect you from the cold and rain.

I must say it is a shocker looking at the fashion that is today and the fashion that was previous us. It simply is mesmerizing, not that those eras weren’t fashionable, they seemed to be more fashionable than today’s. No wonder our current fashion is influenced by the past. Love those boots, they are a great color of warm chocolate. Thanks.
