Facebook Usage Abuse

Two years ago Facebook was just one of those social networking site for people to meet friends or for real friends to reconnect with each other. After companies discovered the power of word of mouth, social media and blogs they started to use it to have their online promos and create buzz.

It was successful at first but after the so-called “contestants” discovered they can create multiple accounts, they did and they use their fake/other accounts to have leverage on contest launched on Facebook.

Some companies were alerted of this and they too realized how ineffective using Facebook for online contest can be.  Most of this contest were that of liking a photo or a status that was posted .  Other promos are that of tagging some photo (even if they are not in it) to create buzz.  Other promos would include having someone post their company logo or product as profile picture of the person joining the contest.

The photo tagging and having someone replace your profile photo for a company product and logo is too invasive. Personally I don’t want to be tagged with a photo of any product or someone I which I am not, it creates confusion and the personal touch of your Facebook account diminished.  I hate being tagged with some product I never used just so they can have free promotion on my account.

Lately there is this Facebook viral virus going around where you will be invited to an event like Free iPad or Make Money Online, once you clicked the link you will posting the same under your name.  If you see such on your account report immediately.

There was this video about ” not going to the beach again” where once you click and watch it will use your Facebook account to post the same on all your friends wall.  It was able to post on the wall of all my friends about an alleged aunt making money online which is a real crap.  I immediately reported the creator of the account and blocked it.   However there is that Free iPad event or Apple iPad Free Event viral on and its being posted by almost all my FB friends..

I hope Facebook do something with regards to photo tagging, where you can only choose people who can tag you on photos.  I wanted a selection where my real friends only are allowed to do that.

I created a groups on my Facebook account for Friends, Online Friends, Relatives, etc. so I can control what others can see on my account and not everything else.

How about you, how is your Facebook experience? Do you think there is some sort of usage abuse going?  What change would you like Facebook to do on their platform so it remains user friendly and still personalized the way we like it?

Stay gorgeous everyone.
