How To Maximize The Shelf Life And Use Of Cosmetics

If a cosmetic has not been used and removed from the original packaging it is good to store for 3 years.   This is  a good reminder not only to those who wants to start their own cosmetic store and purchase wholesale cosmetics but for those who haul cosmetics when they are on sale.

Extreme sun exposure is bad for our cosmetics.   Most of the things that can be found in our make up kit are recommended to be stored in a cool, dark and dry place to prevent melting and contamination.

It is wise to follow the storage direction that can be found on the packaging to maximize the shelf life and use of your cosmetics.   Shelf life is the time a cosmetics is considered safe and good to use.

For cosmetics that were used you can only keep them on a certain period.  Here is a breakdown of their shelf life:

2 years
  • Blush and Bronzer
  • Powder Eye shadow
  • Eyeliner
  • Lipstick
  • Lip liner
  • Lip gloss (18-24 months)
  • Fragrance
18 months
  • Cream or Compact Foundation
  • Concealer (12-18 months)
  • Cream Blush (12-18 months)
  • Cream Eye Shadow (12-18 months)
1 year
  • Oil Free Foundation
6 months
  • Liquid Eyeliner
3 months
  • Mascara
  • Products with SPF

Natural cosmetics / mineral cosmetics needs to be discarded much sooner because they don’t contain the ingredient that can be found in regular cosmetics to prolong their shelf life.

So ladies better check your cosmetics cabinet and discard the things that are way past their due date.

I know someone who labels her cosmetics according to first date of use so she can monitor when to throw them away.

How about you how do you take care of your cosmetics?

Stay gorgeous everyone!
