My Orosman At Zafira Review

The 3rd rerun of Orosman At Zafira by the Dulaang UP debuts last February 4, 2011 at Centerstage in SM Mall of Asia and I am thankful to the producers for the invite.

Orosman At Zafira is an original Playright by Francisco Baltazar and was played live and in free form as directed and choreographed by Dexter M. Santos and original music by Carol Bello and a Bit by Bit Productions.

I admire and salute the efforts of everyone behind this free-form play where the elements of a local musical play (komedya and pasyon) were infused.  I love the different approach in the narration, great job Tao Teves a.k.a. Zelima.

The production was great, the costume was well though off, some problem in the sound system but the actors were great to keep the show going. Each of the tribes in the Kingdom wore color coordinated costumes, they used the same clothing, the only difference was the colors and the accessories.   I wanna meet the person who did the accessories/jewelries , they are very nice!

One thing they fell short off or rather they had in abundance, time. They should have stuck with the 90 minute play article, because honestly, some scenes in it were not necessary, I mean they can get away without it. Because the play was so long I saw someone took a short nap.

In this rerun of Orosman and Zafira, Gulnara (Jean Judith Javier) and Abdalap (Roeder Camañag) over shines Orosman (Jay Gonzaga) and Zafira (Maita Angeli Ponce).  The script gave more emphasis on the treachery by Gulnara that caused the war of the Kingdoms and the selfishness of Abdalap  to kill his own father Bousalem (Nazer Salcedo)  to become a Sultan and win the love of Zafira .

But hey, I’m no expert in plays, if you are a fan of Baltazar and the Dulaang UP then go ahead and watch it!

Orosman at Zafira show schedule is on February 4, 5, 11, 18,19,25, and 26 @ 8PM ; February 5, 12, and 19 @ 10AM and February 5, 12, 19, and 26 @ 3PM. Tickets is sold at Php400 to Php1,000.
