In fact I did the opposite , objectifying men with my hashtags #facundo #girlboss #IamWoman etc and posting photos showing how much I like them male celebrities and models . My friends would even regard me as “babaeng bakla” “gay girl” the way I objectify men. I know it’s not something to be proud about, gender aside, we are all humans. But being that, just like how men drool over pretty sexy women , we girls too can’t help but swoon over beautiful men with nice smile, piering eyes, butt, chest, and abs.
While browsing through Facebook I saw this Huffington post where kids were made to look at Fashion Ads/ Campaigns . How come the kids saw that the fault in those so called creative ads, while the brand managers, and the ad creative team who did it did not? There is something wrong in that.
This should stop. I hope all the Fashion Editors, Advertising Creatives and Brands stop approving and making these kinds of ads, . I know there are women who work behind these campaigns, it is time to stand up for your kind. Stop tolerating the objectification of women because women are not objects #WomennotObjects, we are humans.
Aside from objectifying women, there is also this pressure for women to look perfect , no bulges and flabs (even when sitting down). Pressured to all look like Victoria Secret models when in fact all women in all shapes and sizes are beautiful and sexy. When in fact the Victoria Secret models photos when through a lot of photoshopping airbrushing / photo editing , raw images will reveal that they too have flaws and bulges.
A teenage retail brand, Aerie, has started a campaign on their underwear and bikinis, where their models were not airbrushed or photo shopped at all. This ad have gotten the brand an increase in sale by 20% since then and the sales just keeps getting higher.
I hope ad agencies and brands follows the lead and start showing how real people, real women look like in their brands and not the photo edited Barbie like image that we all know is fictional. Think #WomennotObjects!
Another thing, if people accepts #dadbods, how come they don’t accept #mombods ?
