Visiting Windsor Castle: How My Childhood Dreams Came True !

Windsor Castle,

Hi Earthlings !  It has been a week or more since I’ve been to London and I apologize for the late update.  Anyway,  I have to tell you about my London trip, particularly my visit to Windsor Castle —it wasn’t just a trip; it was a dream. Like, the kind of dream I’ve had since I was a little girl twirling in my living room, pretending to be royalty while singing “Pussycat, pussycat, where have you been? I’ve been to London to visit the Queen.”

So, I’ll be honest, part of me really wanted to meet Queen Elizabeth II. She passed away in September 2022, and I realized that my dream of seeing her wasn’t going to happen, but I did get to visit her tomb. Instead of seeing her wave from a balcony, I found myself standing at her tomb in St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle. It was beautiful, but also deeply emotional.  Her highness tomb had a huge statue laying down and she was side by side with her king Philip who died a year before her. Knowing she, and the love of her life, was resting there, surrounded by generations of history, was…a lot.

And yet, as strange as it sounds, being there felt like coming home. Like I was meant to walk those halls, to soak in the stories and secrets of the past. Maybe it’s silly, but part of me wonders if I was a queen in another life. Being in that space, I felt this weird connection—like I belonged.

Marcus was sweet enough to play along, even though he is not about that monarch’s life. He was basically my emotional support prince while I fangirled over centuries-old crown jewels. I could’ve spent hours soaking in the castle vibes, but I spared him the second round—I’m thoughtful like that. Still, just being there—seeing the grandeur and imagining the lives that were lived within those walls—was everything.

Windsor Castle: A Real-Life Fairytale

Walking into Windsor Castle was like stepping straight into my childhood princess fantasies—except real. The scale, the detail, the sheer opulence…I was honestly in awe. We went there twice but the first time, it was closed.

The second time, though? We got to see the Changing of the Guards. I’d always pictured them in their iconic red uniforms, but since it was fall, they were in gray coats. Not as iconic, but hey, practical. Watching them march felt surreal—it’s so precise, almost robotic. And yet, I couldn’t help but feel a little sad for them. They’re standing there, stoic and serious, while we treat them like a tourist attraction. I even tried whispering to one at Windsor Castle, “What are you even guarding?” Of course, he didn’t answer, but his pacing gave me a clue—probably just stretching his legs.

And their stomping? It’s like Nutcracker meets military realness. They’re so disciplined, so exact, but I couldn’t shake the thought: What must it be like to be them, to be part of this tradition that’s both revered and slightly objectified?

No Photos, But So Many Memories

Here’s the thing about Windsor Castle—they don’t allow photos inside, which broke my heart at first.  I wanted to capture every bit of its beauty. I mean there was a £33 per adult entrance fee (about ₱2,500) to go around inside and some photos would be a great token for this . But honestly? Once I started walking through, I realized no photo could’ve done it justice.

The interiors were like something out of a dream. Think Bridgerton, crank up the glam to 11, sprinkle in some Game of Thrones armor, and bam—you’ve got Windsor Castle. Imagine entire suits of armor plated in gold, carved with the most intricate details. Rooms that felt like they belonged in the most elaborate period drama you’ve ever seen, except this wasn’t a set—it was real.   These weren’t just for show; they were used in actual battles.  There were even dad-bod sized armors I find amusing, see I always thought knights were fit , The thought of someone wearing that and charging into a fight? Insane.

Everything there carried so much history, so much weight. I felt small in the best way possible, like I was standing in the middle of something timeless.  Every corner has a story, and I was living for it. My inner history nerd and wannabe royal were thriving. I couldn’t take pictures, but those mental snapshots are burned into my brain forever.

A Piece of My Heart Forever

A couple in front of Windsor CastleLondon didn’t just meet my expectations—it gave me something deeper. Walking through Windsor Castle, I felt like a little piece of my younger self had come alive. The version of me who dreamed about queens and palaces was so happy, so proud. And sharing that with Marcus made it even better.

Even though I didn’t meet the Queen, being there was everything I could’ve hoped for. London now holds this special place in my heart, not just as a city I visited but as a dream I got to live. And Earthlings, if you ever get the chance to walk those palace halls, I hope it fills you with the same wonder it gave me.

Windsor Castle wasn’t the only highlight of our London adventure! We explored so many historic and iconic spots in this breathtaking city—honestly, it’s one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been. I’ll share all the details in another posts, so stay tuned! You can even steal my itinerary if you’re planning your own trip. We did most of it DIY, and trust me, that’s the best way to experience London—it makes the adventure so much more exciting!
