There are numbers of “authentic” Japanese restaurants out in Manila right now. While I haven’t been to Japan to truly judge if they taste like the real deal, I can tell which one taste better or shall I say pass as the best based on what I have tried so far.
Most of the Japanese restaurants in the country serve the best sushi, ramen and tonkatsu. But have you found the restaurant that serves the best tempura in Manila?

Why do I say it is the best tempura in Manila? Let me count the ways:
1. It’s in the batter. Tenya’s Tempura Tendons does not taste flour-y.
2. It’s in the breading. They don’t overcoat the meat of the dish with too much breading unlike others 3/4 is breading/batter 1/3 is meat.
3. It’s in the sauce! There’s this special sauce at Tenya the Dontare sauce and they are the only ones to have this as it is aged for 100 years to achieve this taste of perfection. The sauce goes well with all of Tenya’s tendons: pork, crab, beef, mushroom, shrimp, etc!
4. It’s the serving. Serving size is good enough to share! Depending on your order if it is a set or ala carte. dishes comes with free miso soup!
5. The price! Tempura lovers will not be disappointed . For the rice bowls price range is somewhere around Php235-350. While set menu is somewhere around Php300-450.
6. They have 5 variety of tendons:
All-Star Tendon, Kakiage Tendon, Chicken Mayo Tendon, Kisu Tendon and Buta Kimuchi Tenron.
The All Star Tendon a bowl of mouthwatering tiger prawns, squid, salmon, kami stick, green beans and mushroom tempura!

If you are a pork person then you will love the Buta Kimuchi Tendon 3 slices of lean pork belly tempura meat is from France! With kimchi toppings and rice plus miso soup on the side Yum!

The Kakiage Tendon is a mix of shrimp, white onions, and celery on top of Tenya’s authentic Japanese rice.
For chicken lovers, the Chicken Mayo Tendon will be a delight. It had chicken fillets, green beans, corn kernels drizzled with authentic Japanese Mayo also served on top of the Japanese rice.
Vegetarian? Not a problem. The Kisu Tendon is for you. It is amix of kisu and kakiagr with green beans served over the authentic Japanese rice.
You can order most by bowl or some of it by basket set. The basket comes with cold or hot noodles if your choice.
