Eeeek! Sorry if the review would sound negative. All I can say is that if you were expecting something at par with the Oceans 11 series, forget it. It’s not even close to it. The humor is different, very different and some may not even like it and think the movie is so pointless, useless, no good movie.Honestly, I didn’t expect it to be that way especially seasoned actors and actresses were in it like George Clooney, John Malcovich, Brad Pitt, Frances Mcdormand, Tilda Swinton and Richard Jenkins. It was like one of their debut films or some movie they have to do just to get noticed, hardly. It was like really stupidly funny crazy pointless.
But then again, I tried to contemplate about the movie and realized, the movie was trying to point out something to all it’s audiences, it is to show how stupid people can get and look like with all their shallowness and earthly desires which is what is happening in this world right now.
The movie was timely and real. Showcasing all characters of the modern world, a philandering husband, a cheating wife, an arrogant jack-ass husband, an airhead gym hunk, a woman with low-self esteem obsessed with cosmetic surgery (liposuction, bust augmentation, etc), judgmental uncaring workmates, a timid guy who couldn’t profess his love, and stuck-up conceited wives.
It also tackled paranoia and different aspects of the modern world like internet dating, cosmetic surgery, divorce, security of documents, pointless killings, greed and the like.
Everything was presented lightly in a seemingly shallow pointless ways and they did well at ending the movie with the quote from the CIA superior guy saying “So what did we learn from this?” “Um… I don’t know.” answered his officer, then a big pause and sigh from the CIA superior “I don’t fuckin’ know either.”
Would I recommend you this movie? Oh sure why not, just leave your expectations behind, like I said it’s a pointless movie that made me laugh lots of times. It wasn’t slapstick comedy but the comedy was kinda smart I think. “Intelligence is relative.”
Anyway, here is my favorite exchange of lines from the movie:
Osbourne Cox (John Malcovich) : You are the guy from the gym.
Ted Treffon(Richard Jenkins) : I don’t represent Hardbodies.
Osbourne Cox: I know very well what you represent. You represent the idiocy of today.
Ted Treffon: No, I don’t represent that either.
Osbourne Cox: You are part of a league of morons. Oh, yes. You see you’re one of the morons I’ve been fighting my whole life. But guess what. Today, I win.
