This Performance During Angels Walk For Autism 2009 Sparks Hope

This video may be ordinary to the rest of the world but for a parent of a child with autism this is a ray of hope. I was inspired, a lot!

All of the performers in this video are inflicted with autism, but because they undergone early intervention they were able to perform this in a large audience and even do the whole number! This was their presentation for the talent contest. Amazing!

This was taken during the Angels Walk for Autism held last January 18, 2009 at the SM Mall of Asia where an estimate of 4,000 people which included parents and children either inflicted or who cares for an individual with autism. This project was done to raise the awareness about this condition and hopefully inspire support from the lawmakers.

The event was also attended by well-known personalities such as singer and actress, Karylle; SM Prime Holdings President, Hans Sy; SM Shopping Center Management Corporation President, Annie Garcia; Assistant President, Steven Tan and Vice President for Operations, Bien Mateo; Commission on Human Rights Chairperson, Leila de Lima; National Council on Disability Affairs Executive Director, Geraldine Ruiz and Buhay Partylist Representative, William Tieng. Other Persons with Disabilities (PWD) Sector also made their present felt and supported this activity by Autism Society Philippines (ASP) like Lauro Purcil, Abner Manlapaz, Kamay at Boses Pilipinas President, Engel Gamboa and the SM Committee on Disability Affairs led by Engr. Mateo.

  1. Hi sarah, thanks for visiting my blog, I was told about the said allowance but had no chance to go and apply for it. Do tell if you are able to get one for your kids, I have heard they offer but never had anyone said they are getting the allowance. Will appreciate your feedback.

  2. Hello there Earth ! I was trying to look for a more updated post on autism but it seems this was the latest one. I already visited your other blog and saw you got an advocacy award about it. I also saw Janette Toral who is my husband’s client way back.

You mentioned your take about our government’s financial support on PWDs. I am not sure if your lovely daughter Tasha already has a PWD ID and if she gets an allowance from your local government. I have 3 kids with special needs , two having autism. Last month the parents of Pasay City Sped went to Pasay City Hall and had a dialogue with the mayor. Since my kid studies there the principal had required us if we wanted our kids to receive an allowance from the local government budget. You may want to inquire about this with your locality or visit Autism Society of the Philippines for more information.

  3. wow. can’t wait for tasha to participate and be the star of activities such as this!
