Retardation And Autism Are Two Different Conditions

Professor Rita Jordan gave a good explanation about the brain of a child with autism and a person without during the Good Autism Practice Conference last January 29-31, 2009 here in Manila.

For an average person the brain growth starts at infancy, the brain grows on the normal level, it grows according to the nutrition it gets and the information or learning experience it absorbs.  For a child with autism, the brain grows very fast regardless of nutrition and learning experience absorbed and reach it’s maturity at an early stage, that is when the signs of autism are prevalent.

Because of this unusual early development of the brain the child with autism was not able to process information properly unlike the average person who learns as it grows.  That is why it’s common for them to cover their ears or seem to be occupied in their own world.

They are not able to do selection or sorting of information or experience coming to them, that also explains the uncontrollable tantrums a child with autism manifest.  They get frustrated and overwhelmed with stimulus around them because they are more sensitive to sounds, smells, touch, light and everything around them.

But through early intervention like therapy a child with autism can learn how to sort things around them and make them stand out that will make them focus on their task.

The same thing goes for voice and facial recognition, an average person could focus on one persons voice or can determine a persons face in a crowded place, a person with autism has difficulty sorting out. This I think explains why my daughter has no sense of danger and easily gets close to almost everyone (even a stranger). She can’t sort out the faces like whom she does and does not know in a crowd as fast as an average person could (scary really.)

“If you want to be understood by a person with autism speak in short sentences and give them time to process. Let them cope with one thing. They need time to piece things together,” she said.

Everyone with autism is different. Some can be high functioning (mildly affected and be classified as having Asperger Syndrome) and some can be low functioning . However with intervention and therapy they can improve dramatically and grow-up as if they didn’t have the disorder.

Many behaviors of autism are caused by frustration. Most of frustration is caused by lack of ways to communicate which is their main problem aside from their problem with social interaction.

It’s just crazy how many “normal” people out there who thinks they are better compared to others with learning disability and have this belief that people inflicted with this problem are the ones to adjust and understand their “normalcy” rather than they adjust to their difference and ostracize them.

Like this Lisa Alberdy idiot who said autism is retarded. I think she is the one who is retarded here because she proudly admits to flirt with other men and do them sexual favors even if she is married. She is more sick than any person with autism or even someone who has mental retardation, because she knows what she is doing while a retard (her favorite word) and a person with autism don’t know what they are doing. Aside from being a retard she is also immoral or if she doesn’t have morals is disrespectful of her husband. What a shame.

If she had been here in the Philippines I can sue her and her partner in crime for violating R.A. 9442 or ridiculing a person with disability and it’s family member and have her jailed not less than 6 months to 2 years and have her pay me P50,000 – P100,000 on that first offense. Especially I have it all documented how she ridiculed me and my daughter.

I would rather have a daughter with autism or retard as she wants to call them, than have an immoral and disrespectful married whore as a daughter/sister/friend. Shame on you!
