The NESCAFÉ 3in1 Soundskool finalists will be performing alongside some of the country’s best bands come Grand Finals Night. These include NESCAFÉ 3in1 Soundskool 05 Grand Prize Winners Hilera, 6CycleMind, Pedicab, ItchyWorms, Imago, Sugarfree, Taken By Cars, Urbandub, Spongecola, Paraluman, Callalily, Sandwich and Letter Day Story. “What’s unique and special about NESCAFÉ 3in1 Soundskool is that the competition not only provides opportunities for the next generation of Pinoy musicians to gain stardom. NESCAFÉ 3in1 Soundskool helps young bands develop their musical abilities with the Workshops and Mentorship stages of the competition where they get to learn lessons that will help them grow as performers and songwriters,” according to Eileen Rose Bangcoro, NESTLÉ Philippines marketing promotions and events cluster head.
The lucky 13 college bands that bested out the hundreds this year are: Little School House (Ateneo de Cagayan – Xavier University), Eevee (Philippine Women’s University – Davao), Disco…Disco…Disco (St. Michael’s College – Iligan City), Lady Suzette (AMA – Tacloban), Sundae Special (Iloilo Doctors College), 3 Hours and 10 (University of the Visayas – Cebu), Iktuz (Colegio de San Juan De Letran Calamba – Calamba Laguna), Mixed Tape (Lyceum – St. Cabrini College of Allied Medicine – Batangas), In Descent (University of Perpetual Help Laguna – Binan Laguna), Nameless Heroes (Mapua Institute of Technology – Makati), Play (Polytechnic University of the Philippines – Quezon City), Soltera (AMA – IIT Cubao – Quezon City) and Project (Jose Rizal University).
The Grand Finals Night served as the climax of this year’s competition. After besting out hundreds of other equally talented bands, the 13 finalists attended intensive music workshops facilitated by some of the representatives from local music industry in the tropical paradise of Boracay. The finalists listened intently as spokespersons like Sony Music Entertainment Philippines’ Vic Valenciano and Jerrick Mina, Soupstar Entertainment’s Darwin Hernandez, Sandwich’s Raimund Marasigan and Pupil shared valuable tips and anecdotes on connecting it with the audience, writing better lyrics and making it in the local music scene. Aside from having the rare opportunity to interact and have fun with bands like Callalily, Letter Day Story, 6Cycle Mind, Pupil and Sandwich in teambuilding activities, the finalists also got to perform with these bands while in the island.
This year’s NESCAFÉ 3in1 Soundskool, with the theme “Huwag Na Magtago! Magparamdam Ka Na!” is supported by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), Sony Music Entertainment Philippines, Paseo de Bahamas, Rudy Project, Boracay Scuba, Boracay Mandarin Island Hotel, Ix Chel, La Carmela de Boracay Resort Hotel and Parkmall in Mandaue City, Cebu.
