Filipiniana Gown Showcase at Philippine SONA Red Carpet Arrivals

Each year, the President of the Philippines delivers the State of the Nation Address (SONA) where our country’s officials and VIPs gather wearing their best Filipiniana gown.   SONA  is a speech where he tells the people his achievements and plans for the country. The SONA is also the kick-off activity to open the sessions in the Senate and House of Representatives.   Since social media became popular, people no longer just wait for what the President will say each year but what the Philippine legislators and the guest will wear at the SONA Red Carpet arrivals.

For those of you who doesn’t know, especially for my international readers,  Filipiniana gowns or terno is the Philippies formal gown/dress worn for formal and special occasions.   Personally I haven’t worn one since our country was Westernized and long gowns and dresses popular in western countries was all I was able to wear for special occasions.   How I wish there will come an event again in my life that I will be able to wear a terno like this one Lucy Torres-Gomez is wearing!

Since 2009  I have been watching out for what our female government officials or wives of our legislators and VIP guest will wear at this occasion because it is only during this time when our Philippine national costumes and attire are showcased in a modern way through modern Filipiniana cut gowns and barongs, terno, baro’t saya.

I always have madam Imeldific Imelda Marcos among the people I look for during this event as she always have the most classic Filipiniana gowns.  I also look for Lucy Torres-Gomez who exudes the modern Filipina woman with her elegance and beauty and she always wear stylish Filipina dresses created by the best Philippine fashion designers in the country.   Sen. Loren Legarda , Pia Cayetano and even Kris Aquino  is also on my watch list on who wears what at the Philippines SONA.
