A Trip To Mt. Pinatubo

One of the places I would love to see one day is the crater of Mt. Pinatubo. I am such an admirer of awesome scenery and Mt. Pinatubo crater is something not to miss.

When the volcano erupted in 1991 after 365 years of sleep. It’s eruption was the largest and most violent terrestrial explosion of the century. The explosion, which blew up 800 meters of its height, created a 2.5km crater that has since been filled with rain water.

I’ve seen so many wonderful reviews about the breathe taking view of the crater that is worth the hours of travel by land and on foot.

For the last decade dedicated hikers could trek to the mountain crater. It involved either days of hiking or hours of 4×4 travel followed by a 2 hour hard hike. A couple of years ago a “trail”, called the skyway, was cut that would allow 4×4’s a shorter route to a drop off point to trek to the crater. The skyway opened up the crater to an hour and fifteen minute 4×4 ride and a 45 minute to 1 hour trek. The trek itself is not a stroll through the park but does not require any great physical fitness level. Just make sure you have your mountain climbing gear from
Petzl or North Face ready, they make the best gears you can find.

There are a couple of  Mt. Pinatubo tour packages being offered now and the price range from P2,500 to P5,000 depending on the type of extra services you would want. For a girly-girl like me I think the P5,000 package is good since it includes a free use of the shower facility, spa treatment and lunch included. Another great reward you can give to yourself after enduring that physically challenging trip. Just make sure to get a package that includes the 4×4 jeep, the round trip transportation to the town proper, conservation fees and tour guide.
