So you’ve been wondering what’s this paid ads on your Entrecard dashboard means. Does this mean you get some revenue approving this ads or not?
The answer is NO!!!
There were speculations that this is a test drive to make Entrecard profitable for both the bloggers and Entrecard but according to the clarification post by EC about this all the money goes to them so they can pay for their web hosting, development etc.
And I quote them: “In simple terms, Entrecard needs money in order to pay for things like web hosting, development etc. For those who aren’t familiar with the industry, things like the Market cost upwards of US$7,000 to put together, and hosting costs are in excess of US$1,000/mn for the systems needed to serve the EC community at this time. It’s not cheap. So, to be clear, your free Entrecard account costs Entrecard a fair chunk of money. We’ve already done some things, such as selling credits, to help balance these costs so we can continue operating. Paid ads is simply another option.”
To sum it, the money all goes to EC and none to you the blogger.
It’s your choice if you approve a paid ad or not. The big problem is most of the ad for EC credit will be a goner because of this.
Because EC “needs money” they have to implement this and advertising across the entire Entrecard network cost around $0.2 per click or $0.30 CPM.
The paid ads in your dashboard if you approve it will run as long as the advertiser got the money to pay for ever click and CPM. If the advertiser runs out of money the ad will end as well.
You are also wondering about ads showing in your EC widget even if you did not approve them. You need to go to your dashboad reject the ad and wait 15 minutes before the ad will disappear in your widget.
So just to make it clear and I quote what the EC forum admin said: ” We’re not punishing people who don’t accept paid ads.
We have two conflicting concepts we are trying to resolve:
1. That each blogger on Entrecard has the right to be in control of their space on the widget.
2. That the Entrecard network needs income to continue to operate, to help support its members, and to add new features to benefit the Entrecard community.”
Another issue was the Cash Out thing: “CashOut is a feature coming up shortly. It’s our carrot to give back to the community for helping support the whole system. In essence, we take 75% of the funds acquired via the paid ads programme, and we put that into a fund that will be used by Entrecard to buy credits from users (if they want to sell) in exchange for US$. This fund is accumulating as we speak, and I hope to have the CashOut user interface complete by this time next week.”
With all these explanations I decided to cancel all the more than 50 approve paid ads placed in my blog and left one, Moms Crazy Life because she is one of my firsts blogger friend I met at Blog Catalog and she is a funny sweet lady and I love her blog!
So what’s your take on this new system on EC? A thumbs up or thumbs down?
