Although I have attended several makeup workshop and classes, I still don’t consider myself a makeup professional. For one I don’t have the certificate yet, and two, I am not that confident in doing other people’s makeup just yet because I don’t have steady hands. So, when Krissy approached me if I want to attend a makeup class at Maquillage Professional MP School of Makeup Artistry at Global City Taguig, I said yes right there and then.
“Kasi marunong ka na naman mag-makeup baka di mo na kailangan” (I was hesitant to ask because you already know how to do makeup and might not need the class anymore), she said.
“Naku hindi, gusto ko yan. Iba-iba naman kasi ang technique ng mga makeup schools and teacher.” ( Oh no! I want to attend the class. Makeup schools and teachers have different techniques.) It is always good to learn something new! I told her.
True enough to my expectations, I have learned so many things in a span of two hours in the capsule class at Maquillage for Glamour / Evening Makeup Photography, thanks to our teacher Ms. Yuri who explained how such technique is done and why. So without further ado, here are the five (5) things I learned from MP School:
1. Contouring
What's Inside
I’ve been hearing this in some of the makeup workshops I attended and I hear how my makeup blogger friends (who are also makeup artist) and non-blogger makeup artist friends rave about this. Personally, I don’t grasp the need to contour, especially in my case that I already have s slim petite face and a high cheekbone. But when Ms. Yuri pointed out contouring is essential in Makeup especially in Facial Beauty Makeup Photography to create that illusion of a more defined face and proper shadowing of the face even without all the works of that elaborate lighting.
Ms. Yuri also taught us the right kind of brush, the right technique of holding the brush, the type of brush strokes to use, the shade of powder and type of makeup to use when contouring! And yes, iba pa yung blush sa contour!
2. Highlighting
I’ve been doing highlighting in the makeup I do to myself most of the time, but I laughed at myself now knowing I’ve been doing it wrong! Hahaha! Thanks to Maquillage, I know now how to do it the right way, like where to highlight, what brush to use and the kind of brush stroke to use when doing it.
3. Creating a nose line
Again, I am not so gaga over doing this to myself so I did not bother concerning myself over this before because thank God I am gifted with a very nice nose. But as we know many Filipina women want a high nose (because most Pinays don’t have it). Ms. Yuri told us the proper way to do this as well, what type of brush to use and the right technique to do it so as it does not appear like you have drawn a line on the top of your nose or look like you have charcoal on the sides!
4. How to make a Deep Set Eyes Makeup Look
I’ve seen people wear the look, I’ve seen makeup artist do this in person, but I really don’t know what it’s called and why it is done, all I know is that it looks nice! Hehe! I’ve been doing this look on myself too but I’ve been doing this differently! Like I said the first time, different makeup artist and different makeup school have different techiniques. I am glad to have learned this new and easier way to do a Deep Set Eye! Yay!
5. Proper use of the Dome Makeup Brush!
Yes, you may laugh at me for not knowing how to use this brush correctly! Seriously, I’ve been using this brush for different purpose! Now I know how to use it right and where to use it! Hah!
See the difference? That’s how makeup enhances ones beauty!
If you thought we only watched the demo, you are wrong, we were also told to do practice what we’ve learned by doing it to ourselves our teacher will tell us if we did it right and what needs improvement! So, here is my before and after look! I attended the class with just a powder and a colored lipgloss !
After following her tips and correction, here’s the finished look, on TV! Yes, we have a photographer on standby and they will shoot you in every angle so as you we can talk about it!
Now that’s an evening look! I just need to put on the right dress etc and I’m good to party the night away! Haha! I attended another event wearing this look and everyone complimented my makeup is (parang gawa daw ng pro!)
Thank you again ARC Public Relations for inviting me to take this makeup class. Thanks Ms. Celine of ARC PR and to Ms Yuri for all the makeup know-how you shared with us!
L-R: My classmates Alex, (somebody from Philippine Tatler sorry didn’t catch her name my bad!), Ms Celine, Ms. Yuri and me.
I purposely did not go much into the details on how everything was done as I would like you to experience the class yourself if you are willing to, have time or want to become a makeup artist by profession. If you want to learn what I just learned in person and even more so you can venture into the makeup artistry profession, you may enroll at the Maquillage Makeup Classes. Here is the August 2013 classes, schedule and details:
You may follow @maquillageprof on Twitter for updates or visit their website mpschool.com.ph for more details.
Stay gorgeous everyone!

I’ve been meaning to enroll in a makeup class just so I can correctly put makeup on my face. Thanks for posting their schedules.
I wish I can attend a make-up class too!
