And so, I was surprised to receive an email narrating an alleged price cheating in SM chain of stores. There was this shopper who shared her experiences of some minor price discrepancy between the price tag and what was reflected on the cash register.

But then I was relieved when I saw an article from Inquirer.net that clarified this issue, saying that SM has addressed this promptly. I am happy to share that the SM management has personally spoken to the concerned customer and is constantly updating their price tags.
According to the article of PDI columnist Linda Bolido, SM said that Millie Dizon of the SM Group said “the whole SM chain was doing its best to minimize the problem of price discrepancies despite the difficulty” and assured consumers that they are doing regular checking and monitoring of their displayed items to ensure price consistency between the price tags and the cash registers. So if I were you, if ever I come across any so-called price discrepancies, I would just simply call and give them feedback (I think there are phone numbers on the receipts) since they listen anyway.
Oh, and the best part is… in case of price discrepancy between the tag and the cash register, SM says the lower price prevails!
Happy Shopping!
Stay gorgeous everyone!

Hi Olivia, you should take a pic of that when you encounter again… that’s cheating talaga nakakainis yan ha!
Mas malala ang Fila. everytime may 50% off sale sila, itataas nila yun prices nila up to 3,400 to 3,600 para pag 50% off, 1,700 pa din shoes nila. usual shoe prices nila is at 1,500 eh. tsktsk.
at least sa SM, higher price prevails. sarap picturan yun mga Fila shoe prices para pag sale, ipakita mo sa kanila. bwahahaha
I’m actually fortunate enough cos I haven’t really experienced this. But yeah I’ve heard about this email being passed around. At first I thought it was a scam, then it turns out to be true pala. Oh well. I think it’s good to note that SM is doing something about it. Thanks for the post! 🙂
Tara, let’s shop! 🙂
@ Rezza like what they said complain immediately , they can not monitor everything on their own with the many stores and products they have we as customers can help by complaining to the right people.
The great news here is the lower price tag prevails!
I had an almost similar experience when I shopped at SM Bicutan 2 years ago. I bought a wooden cutlery tray that was supposedly 20% off (it had the orange tag pa ata). The item was shrink wrapped when I bought it.
When I got home and started to remove the plastic wrap I noticed the tag was double. I tried to slowly peel off the topmost sticker tag and was shocked. Underneath the tag was another price tag with an amount even LOWER than the “sale” price I paid for! I took a photo of it with the intention of blogging the story but never got around to doing it 🙁
What do you guys think of that? I think its a very devious and underhanded scheme, if it were one!
